The Problem Isn’t Talent, It’s Structure
Recently, I was featured in a Vanguard article where I spoke about why the Nigerian film industry isn’t thriving the way it should. If you would like to read the full interview, you can check it out here: Read the Vanguard feature .
The truth is simple. The problem isn’t talent. It’s structure.
We Have the Talent
Growing up around Nigerian storytelling, one thing was always clear. Creativity was never lacking. Writers, actors, directors, editors, the raw ability has always been there. The passion is there. The hunger is there.
But passion alone doesn’t build something that lasts. Without systems, without long term thinking, and without proper infrastructure, talent becomes scattered. Projects become rushed. Stories begin to lose their depth, and over time, consistency starts to fade.
Speed Versus Depth
One of the biggest challenges I’ve observed is the focus on speed. How fast can we shoot, how quickly can we release, and how soon can we move on to the next project.
But storytelling doesn’t work like that. The work that truly stays with people is not rushed. It is built with care. It is thought through. It is intentional. That level of depth requires patience and a system that supports quality over urgency.
What My Journey Taught Me
My journey has taken me through different environments, and each one shaped how I see creativity today. Nigeria taught me how to feel stories. The UK taught me how to structure them properly. The United States is teaching me how to scale them and position them for a wider audience.
That combination changed everything for me. It helped me understand that creativity is powerful, but it becomes even more impactful when it is supported by structure.
How This Reflects in My Work
This is why I approach photography differently. For me, it is never just about taking a good picture. It is about intention. Every image should carry purpose, structure, emotion, and story.
Because whether it is film or photography, the principle remains the same. If there is no depth, it will not last. At Blu Pebble Studio, the goal is to create images that people can return to years later and still feel connected to that moment.
Why This Matters
This conversation goes beyond film. It applies to photography, branding, and every creative field. Talent might get attention, but structure is what builds consistency, trust, and longevity.
Most people just want good pictures, and that is understandable. But the difference between a regular photo and one that truly means something often comes from the process behind it. The thought, the patience, and the intention that goes into capturing it.
Let Me Put It Simply
We have all taken or seen photos before. Some you look at once and forget. Others stay with you. You go back to them. You feel something when you see them again.
That difference is not luck. It is intention. It is structure. It is understanding what matters in that moment and taking the time to capture it properly.
That is the mindset I bring into every shoot. Not just to take pictures, but to create something that actually means something to you.
